I have not taken the time lately to keep up with the blog postings unfortunately, but here goes!
In the past few weeks I have spent time alongside my mentor learning the ins and outs of signal flow and have really started getting a grasp on the fundamental concepts and aspects of audio engineering/recording. I've also had the opportunity to set up and sound check with some very talented musicians like "How to Dress Well" and "Nite Jewel". Transitioning into the second month of my mentorship I will be spending much more time in the studio helping to solder wires and learn to build some analog gear/cables from scratch, as well as sit in on live recordings and mix downs. I'm really looking forward to getting into the workshop and getting a better grasp on the technical aspects of analog systems.
Truthfully, I did not have the chance to spend much time with my mentor in my first month of the program; but heading in to this next month I'll be insisting more and more on following him around so I can pick up as many tips and tricks and learn as much as possible. Even if it means getting under his skin from time to time :). Fern, my mentor, is a well of knowledge and a truly old school guy. I love it. I have so much to learn from him and his passion for the warmth of sound. There is truly nothing like analog.
Future blog posts will be updated more regularly and I know I will have many more pages of awesome experiences to fill.
Until we meet again!,
Sean
