First day of school. Posted on 2014-04-02 by Brendan Daly

Yesterday March 31 was my first day of school pretty much. I take my classes with Devon Kirkpatrick who is the senior engineer at Sockit Studio in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I got there a little early so I  hung out in his lounge and waited for a few minute while he was finishing with a client. Whatever he was working on it sounded really good. I was very excited to be in a real recording studio with a real recording engineer. Once he was done we went to his main studio where we well be doing most of our work. I'm got in, sat done and just tried to take everything in. We went over the test witch was on sound and hearing.

Ill be honest with you, this is alot to take in and I was really nerves to start. I didn't know what to expect for the first lesson but it was just me and him and was really cool. Explained alot but i still have alot to learn. When we started he brought out a song that he was working on for a client of his. In the song he showed me the auditory masking of a bass line masking the organ in the back round. Bought out a few more examples on phasing, compression, mono sound and stereo sound. He showed me a few music soft wares that he works with. I don't know what they were called but it helped out alot. He also brought out pro tools and we talked about it for a few minutes. I'm very happy to working with him and letting me be in the studio. I cant wait for the next lesson.
