My Learning Initiation Posted on 2016-07-21 by Eunice Gee

Going through this chapter, I experienced many of the challenges a person riding a bike for the first time would. Beginning to learn the basic fundamentals of sound and its history helped connect the various elements, which make up the focus of an audio engineer. It clarified many terms I've heard previously, but never really understood. Even the basic terminologies such as frequency and amplitude evolved in their purpose and importance in understanding many other elements to understand in its entirety. I took advantage of the chapter quizzes at the beginning of each section that helped strengthen my grasp on each aspect in addition to chiming in on peer conversation. The various content comprised of a range of media nourished and helped retained the content, which would have been otherwise dry and difficult.

My session at the Engine Audio Room was exciting and intimidating at the same time. I was excited to be at the studio with a highly experienced and well-versed engineer, Mike Bader. We went over the chapter and was able to clarify on certain terms and topics to help me understand them in a practical, applicable way.

About twenty minutes into our session, another engineer asked Mike for help with some equipment for his own session. I was not intending to follow him but Mike was kind enough to invite me with him. I entered the studio and it was in pristine shape with top-of-the-line equipment (I can only guess, I had no idea what I was looking at). Mike was not only able to identify the problem but quickly resolved the issue using the "timer" . The timer was located in a closet with even more equipment. He told the other engineer he needed to restart the program in order to sync the timer with the session. I hope I will understand this better soon.

Overall, Mike was great in helping to explain the fundamentals of Chapter 1 in a plain but very adhering way. We also connected on 40 and how insane his studio is. He also provided a link to help me get started on packs for Ableton, which was very helpful and much appreciated.
