I think this chapter was the most exciting chapter for me so far. I loved learning about the different types of mics and its specifications, look, model, history, etc. and this chapter really helped tie all that information in. This chapter focused on when to use a mic for different purposes. I wouldn't follow a textbook method on how to choose mics but the foundation of the information helps to have a starting point, which is great because music is all about emotion and perception. I liked Mike's story that he shared involving Bjork and when she went around and performed on a SM57, which is a dynamic mic instead of a high quality, high priced recording mic. I thought this was fascinating because Bjork is very talented and widely known as a recording artist but she went against the typical recording standards and used a rugged dynamic mic to perform and absolutely crushed it. Learning about mics gets me excited because I feel like I have more control over how I envision a project to sound and manipulating the sound without manipulating the artist or the environment, technically.
