I'm still trying to understand and differentiate the three main types of mics. Condensers, dynamic and ribbon. It's important to know how microphones function in order to use them to its maximum efficiency as Mike has taught me. It isn't always about strictly adhering to the rules of specific mics for specific sound. It's about knowing the specs of a mic and utilizing it based on the given information. I thought it was incredibly interesting learning about the polar patterns because I've always thought mics picked up sound the same way and had no idea what was beneath all that metal. Learning condenser mics require phantom power and others don't was also good to know. I can't wait to start geeking out about my first very own mic when I truly start understanding and appreciating them.
