Mics and Signal Flow 1/25/18 Posted on 2018-02-02 by Kyle Pardo

To start off the day we went to the mic locker and went over all of the different types of mics (condenser, dynamic, ribbon), their polar pattrns (Cordioid, omnidirectional), as well as the sounds that the mics were good at capturing. The next thing that we did was st up a mic in the blue room. We then went over the process of sending the mic and hearback signal from the source into pro tools. First we started by sending the signals from the recording room into the tie line. From there, we sent the signal into the pre amp, to amplify the signal from mic level to line level. Next we sent it into a compressor to help control the levels, and finally the signal was sent into pro tools.

I also stayed for an additional mixing session with Michael, where he mixed a Ska/Jam band. I observed the steps that he usually takes when mixing, and learned some helpful tips on mixing through out the session.
