Piano Tracking 2/19/2018 Posted on 2018-02-21 by Kyle Pardo

Today was a holiday at the studio so there wasn't too much going on, however this allowed me to get more experiance with mic placement. We started off by micing the piano in sound room 3. We used two small diaphragm condensor microphones in order to create a stereo signal. First we tried using a space pairing. We placed one mic over the low end strings, and one over the high. We made sure that we were following the 3 to 1 rule and then tested the sound. After afooling around and adjusting the mic placement, we decided to use an xy micing pattern. We set the mics u closer to the center of the piano and placed them at a 90 degree angle from one another. In my personal opinion, I thought that the xy pairing had a more full, warm sound then the spaced pair did. After that we set up the manly in sound room 3 for the next clients.
