Ok, so I haven't written a blog in a while. I've been busy sinking my teeth into everything I can. Since my last post I have started my first project which is a concept that Advanced Audio students get to embrace. I did everything from scratch which was amazing. I went out, found a band that I've never seen or heard of. Liked their music, asked them if they would be interested in recording a demo at the studio in NY. They were of course keen considering it was a free demo for them, recording in a Grammy award winning studio. I sat down with the band. Found a suitable song that I chose. Had a meeting with the writers and talked about the pre-production. I had some chordal Ideas that I thought would make the chorus pop a little more and I put that to the band in a very delicate way. They loved the ideas and kept it for the recording.
We then booked a day to track the song in at Engine Room Audio and it went so well. I got to select the microphones I wanted (with help) and the placement of the microphones. We set up the entire room for a simultaneous tracking session of a 5 piece band. Separating the amp for the guitar in another room to provide space.
The whole day was a blast and we got some really great stuff for a first day of tracking.
I am now taking a month off to travel to Australia and while Im here I have been editing the different takes that we did so we have the best of the best. I simply can't wait to get back so I can pick up where I left off.
