Introduction to Plug-ins and signal processing: - Time Based Reverb and echo and delay.
This lesson was one of my personal favorites just because I have a deep passion for sounds with echo and delay but it also helped me learn how to use these within my mixes..Especially with Reverb and how it can add that special "zest" to a sound. Being that I'm a guitarist I've been familiar with all of these effects and have used different reverbs and delays on my own amps/pedals. I personally own the Memory Man with Hazarai which is one of my favorite pedals because it has so much to offer and you can create your own delay by actually adjusting the decay, filter, repeat, and delay!
Matt and I also ran through Flanging and Chorus effects. I've used a flanger as a guitar effect before but haven't really ever used it within a mix or on a track. However, I have used a chorus pedal but never really knew what it did exactly. It was awesome to learn about how a chorus pedal takes two identical signals and slighty detunes one and slightly delays the other giving the sound of not one "note" or "voice" but actually two or three!
Matt showed me some neat reverbs in ProTools (some of which were purchased plug-ins) and others which I actually have within my ProTools! He also discussed with me the different types of reverbs and also gave me some cool tidbits about how they created reverb in the past (mainly plate reverbs) and how they actually had a giant plate inside that would resonate the sound! It's always neat to learn about stuff you've actually had your hands on! My next lesson is my MidTerm and Mixdown Lab! I'm excited and a little nervous but I've been going over all of my stuff and I feel confident I'll do well!
