Sync and Automation
We're getting close to the end of my lessons and although I'm bummed that I'll be finishing up I can truly say that I've learned a bunch of helpful information! This lesson we discussed synchronization and SMPTE time codes and console automation.
Matt and I discussed the modes of console automation within ProTools because they are a necessary tool within the editing and mixing process. There is write mode, read mode, and drawn/rubberband mode. I also learned about older console automations including VCA's, DCA's, motorized faders, etc. We discussed how using sync causes one transport to be the MASTER and you can have up to 2 or more SLAVES to that master. This was interesting to me because I use a 4-deck mixer when I DJ and one of those tracks while live mixing/syncing is the Master and all the other tracks slave to that master and run off of it. This is also the same within lights and my light rig! I can make one of my lights the Master and if it runs on sound sensitivity I can link the other lights to that master light and they will all run off of that! It's definitely cool to learn more about things that I already own or have been using within my music experience!
