Drum and Guitar Miking Technique/ Mixing Lab

I've used a majority of these techniques at home while recording my own guitar tracks and I also learned more while in the studio with Matt during his sessions and miking the drum kit up!  Matt and I discussed the multiple stereo miking techniques and which ones he prefers to use and why.  We talked about Mid Side technique, X and Y technique, Spaced stereo miking, and more.  Matt allowed me to mike up the drum kit myself and he told me what I did right and wrong (or what I could've done better).  We also ran through which types of mikes are used on what drums and why.  I know that matt uses the D112 on the Kick Drum and he likes the Senheiser 441 for the toms!  He also uses the SM57 for miking the snare and he uses two overheads with spaced technique (always keep in mind the 3:1 distance rule as to avoid phasing).  It was nice to run through my own little drum session and work on my microphone placement skills!  Coming up on the end soon...
