Introduction to Audio Processing

Getting to know your Plug-ins

March 26th

12pm- 5:30 pm

Today I finally had my ProTools loaded onto my computer and I also my Scarlett had arrived.  I was quite excited to use both.  Since my last lesson Matt and I covered the quick commands for ProTools he decided he would give me a blank session to work on in my own spare time.  So I loaded up one of his sessions onto my computer and he removed any and all work he had done to it on his own time and now it was my turn to mess around with the plug ins and editing/mixing.  Before I went home Matt and I covered a bunch of the plug-ins I would be using within ProTools such as the BF76 Compressor and some of the EQs and what not.  He showed me on his ProTools in the studio how some of these worked and many different ways they could be used to manipulate a sound.  After our lesson he had a female vocalist come in and I got to sit in on the session while he tracked her vocals and did multiple edits to one of her songs she had been working on with him.  It was great to see him one on one with someone because I mostly saw him working with bands so this session was pretty laid back but still a ton of work was getting done.  He told me the vocalists voice was her instrument and she was in the vocal booth recording multiple harmonies for her song, some with three or four parts, and Matt then layered them all together to create what sounded like multiple singers.  It was neat to see him doing some layering while editing because I am a huge fan of harmonizing guitars and other instruments so to see him work with a fantastic female vocalist and layer her vocals was exciting for me.
