How many times do you play something over and over to get that perfect succession of notes to create a unique melody? I spend hours sometimes just playing the keys to hash out something that sounds good, but the great thing about when i play is that i use MIDI information rather than an actual piano. Doing so allows me to record my jam session and pick my favorite section that i will then remodel into something that i admire. Using MIDI allows me to get creative with what i have and most times i can go beyond my normal capabilities due to the amount of freedom you have by using 1's and 0's. I can be a beginner at any instrument and still make it sound just as good as a professional player if i wanted. Im not saying that its easy nor am i saying that mastering an instrument is pointless, but you can achieve similar results to a pro if you really take the time and mold your midi information.
