Compressors and Volume Control Posted on 2013-06-23 by Tobias Langston

Date 6/17/13  Time in 6:00pm Time out 9:00pm Lesson 13

For this lesson we went over Compression/Compressor, Volume Control, a Limiter, Clipper Limiter, Threshold, Gain, HPF, LPF, and Q (quality) went over a few different things. Asaf showed me different Plug ins for compression and other dynamic processors.  The threshold is where a decreasing signal will be turned down, it adjust the level at which gate open or closes. A limiter is used to prevent distortion or sounds that exceed a certain level, if a compressor ratio is set to 100:1, that compressor is   also went over a De-esser, which helps reduce a sound like ssss, sh or zh.  We went over Expansion and Gate, expansion is a device that makes loud signals louder and soft signals softer, the opposite of a comprssor, a Gate is a device that softens a sound after it fall below a set level.  With compression output gain, it makes a sound to be significantly louder in a mix controlling the volume. After our lesson we had a client in recording (Assain) a 15 year old rapper who i have seen before. Looking forward with working on Pro tools and my Mbox that i got in the mail too.
