Microphone placement tech Posted on 2013-08-09 by Tobias Langston

Date 8-9-13 time in 6:00 time out 9:00 lesson 18

For this lesson we went over miking tech, which was kinda review for mics and different patterns they do.  From Omni, Bi directional, Cardioid, Hyper cardoioid, and Shotgun.  Different microphones are dymanic and condensor mic's, dynamic has its own power and condesor need a power source like phantom power.  Dynamic are most popular for picking up a loud elecrtic guitar.  A few miking tech are, spaced pair, X/Y, M/S, decca tree, which is not common to use to often.  When miking use the 3:1 rule every foot the mic are 3 feet apart, X/Y is common to use in the studio, placing the mic's as close as possile at a 90 &135 degrees.  M/S is simliar to x/y but it needs a active matrix or plug in, in order to work. And spaced pair be placed in frnt of the instrument to obtain stereo image.  Some common miking tch for drums, is kick, snare, overhead, highhat/toms.  When recording thr human you need to watch for excessive dynamic range, sibilance, and excessive bass boost due to proximity effect. While i was there i met another student named Zack cool person, and other named Cody but he already fin the program.
