Here I Am! part 2: My life as a DJ Posted on 2012-04-26 by Christopher Coolsen

To continue on to who I am, what I am looking for in life, my goals and experience, and what I've learned in the program, let me add some more background for your consideration:

I've been employed as a Wedding DJ for the past 10 years (not to be confused with a Club DJ).  I've done over 300 weddings and numerous other events such as birthday parties, bar mitzvahs, etc..  In my profession you have to have an appreciation for all genres of music.  It is whatever the bride wants.  The idea is to keep the client happy, even if you can't mentally tolerate playing Brown Eyed Girl one more time.  It's what she wants: everyone else at the wedding comes in second. House and Rock and Hip-Hop and Top 40 and Country and even Polka, if the songs are dancable and the people are happy you've done your job right! Wedding DJ side note: odds are if the groom has personality, you are more likely to get a tip.  If he has the excitement level of a pine cone, don't expect anything.

This experience has given me an appreciation of professionalism and open-mindedness for interacting and keeping the client happy.  Another way to approach something is never impossible!
