Theory of mixing Posted on 2017-12-04 by Cristian Bialoszewski

I have to admitt right off the bat that this lesson was the most fun I had in the studio. I can really go on for days but i will sum it up in a few sentences. So obviously chapter 12 was about mix theory and I was initaly confused at the start on what it was. So time to go to the studio! My mentor basically explained a few short things one of which is what a mix is. In a nutshell, It’s the process of taking a multitrack recording and putting it into one. Mono audio converted into stereo audio. Mono audio being the amount of audio that is being played is the same in both speakers aka both ears. Stereo audio is the seperation of sound or sounds in different ears. For example if you put on earbuds and you play your music. You will hear the lead guitar in your right ear and then you might hear the drums or a second guitar in your left ear. After this was said and done my mentor played me a video on this concept exactly. While it was a cheesy video I was so shocked at what i had learned. One thing I really want to highlight is. I had headphones on and the video would play some audio and as it was mixed from mono to stereo. I could hear the audio being panned from one ear to the other.
