Today was an introduction to microphones and miking techniques. Joey showed me some of the mics in his collection. I learned which mics work best for specific instruments. FOr example, Joey typically uses his SHure SM57 as his mic of choice for electric guitar amps and snare drums - especially when multiple instruments are being played at once. On the flipside, he typically uses his AKGC for vocals in the isolation booth. Joey emphasize, however, that there are no rules when miking - just guidelines. Also, if it sounds good - do it!
