George KounnasPhiladelphia Recording Connection

Lesson 1 Posted on 2013-03-24 by George Kounnas

Session Date: 3/23/2013 1:20pm-2:30pm Lesson #1

I just wrapped up my first session with Jae at Msound Studio. He gave me an extended tour of the studio and I also got to meet another working engineer named John, who had graduated from the recording connection a few years ago. I also got to sit down and talk with John. He explained to me the basic curriculum and rundown of how they're going to work with me and what I'll being doing. I then sat down with Jae and we went over the signal flow of studio B. The signal flow of a studio is the path and audio signal takes from the source to the speakers. It sounds more simple than it is. There are typically a lot more in between such as patch bays, preamps, interfaces, and the mixing board. I was introduced to a Universal Audio Preamp and it is used to give power to the condensor mics, which are typically used for vocals. I can't wait to start learning Pro Tools and working the mixing board. I enjoy the environment at Msound and I'm excited to meet new people and learn more.
