Lesson #6

These past few sessions we've covered some business related topics, but have mainly been focused on mixing. Jae gave the other students and myself our own completely raw songs to mix on our own and in our own way. In the earlier session Jae had guided us through the mix process and gave us a demonstration on how he approaches the mixing process. When we're mixing the songs on our own, Jae will give us each about an hour with complete freedom to mix the song how we please. His reasoning for leaving us alone is because he wants us to run into problems and try to figure out the problems on our own, but also wants us to ask questions when problems arise. Being complete amateurs, you can imagine the questions are flowing pretty consistently. I personally feel the method of leaving us alone is very helpful.

Jae said in the next sessions coming up we're going to start miking the drums which I'm more excited for because I'm most interested in working with full band projects.

So far I am very happy with the program and working with Jae at Msound. I have not once found myself not wanting to be there which is a very good sign for the future.
