This was a great night, where I was able to be in the moment while laying down original tracks of my own and gain some high quality hands-on engineering experience with those tracks thanks to Joey Heier... Read More >>
MOESHETTI — Philadelphia Recording Connection
It\'s better to pursue what you love or die trying. I was a metal-head as a boy (KISS fan) and always wanted to be a musician. I began studying piano at about age 11, then switched to bass at 12. I also played tenor sax for a year in a junior high stage band. Soon after, I abandoned my studies (Husker Du fan) and began playing in punk rock trios (Blatant Disregard; About Face) at the age of 14 desert lots by generator and later began playing in clubs, parties, and theatres. The weekend after finishing school, I moved to California where I formed another trio (Trip City) and began expanding my musical repetoire to include elements of prog-rock (Van Der Graaf Generator, Henry Cow) metal (Tool, Sepultura) what I would consider avant-garde (John Zorn) or art-punk (Sebadoh, Hail) and space-funk in the spririt of Bootsy Collins, Bill Laswell, and Buckethead. Things didn\'t quite turn out, as they sometimes don\'t, so I moved to the East Coast and settled in NYC for a time. It was there that I first tried engineering the sound for a project my cousin was involved in, a play called \"The Diary of Kurt Cobain\". This experience was not great, so I continued for a time with aspirations of doing something with the material I wrote and recorded in California. Financial strife and some issues with writers block caused me to make a decison that I would later regret: placing my dreams on hold and possibly abandoning them altogether. Fast-forward a few years later and I now live in Philadelphia where I once sang with Sebadoh at Johnny Brenda\'s. I discovered the RC online and met my mentor, Joey Heier, soon after and now I study at the great Crystal Clear Studios. This is the most emalculate and beautiful studio I have ever seen, let alone been in...staffed by solid professionals. There\'s no fly-by-night horseshit here. This is a welcomed change to what I\'m used to and I couldn\'t ask for a better teacher. Joey has the gift of the \"Mad Sum-Up\". He has the rare ability to pinpoint the core essence of the material, utilizing unique, memorable phrases and terms in a language that make sense to the musician as well as the layman. I have always depended on others to record my music throughout the 20 plus years I played the most and have wanted to learn how to record and produce recordings for a long time. My hope is that my dreams can be resurrected and realized by recording the new material I have written as well as writing and recording for others. I also hope to work at a studio or any other position in the entertaiment industry my education and past experience could afford me. This experience will help me find meaning in what I\'ve done in the past while opening up new possibilities in the future. The music never leaves you, if you are a true artist.

The EDM artist metioned in the last post was present the night of my scheduled Mastering lesson. I was able to observe the use of some great custom plugins Joey had purchased for Protools, including a voice gate and an incredible EQ that was able to self-adjust for variations in frequencies throughout the length of the track to prevent masking, among other things...
