Today for my class Joey took the recordings we had from Elk Embassy, the band Joey recorded with me helping, and showed me how to make a rough mix for them. We started with all levels of audio down, and brought them up one by one. We started with the drums and worked our way up to eventually making the mix sound as good as it could be, without eq and compressors/limitors, etc. It was definetely a learning experience and amazing to see how the masters do it. Joey never ceases to amaze me with how trained his ear really is at this stuff. It was awesome to listen with him and hear parts together that needed to be panned or have a higher/lower level of decibals. This was a band that I previously brought in to do a demo recording at the studio, but ended up being a paying customer with Joey, and I am so blessed to be able to be a part of it. Joey didn't have to wait for me to do the rough mixes for Ethan and his band. He could have done it with them and got paid for it, but instead waited for me so I could learn hands on how to do it, and that shows what kind of man Joey really is! This man deserves a raise! He is a one of a kind teacher, and you will not get another one like him. He is not only my teacher now a days, but also a friend. The amount of stuff he teaches me will go so far with what I plan to do with my future, and I am extremely thankful that Joey could be a part of that! Im really looking foward to see where this takes me in life!
