Lesson 14 Dynamic Signal Processing AKA Compression Posted on 2017-11-27 by Mike-Cole

To say I didn’t know what I was dealing with in terms of compression before this lesson is a complete understatement. I would adjust the gain know thinking that it meant “volume”, I would adjust the threshold thinking that it was the same thing as a volume knob. And while it was good at the time to play around with the different knobs and learn the layouts of different plugins, my mixes were not sounding any better. As of today I am thankful that I know what a compressor does.

If a person is not an audio engineer, they don’t really ask themselves why they don’t have to constantly adjust the volume on their phones when they’re listening to music on spotify and this is because of compression.

This is a necessary step in the mixing process especially when you are working with non-digital instruments.
