Michael HeldPhiladelphia Recording Connection

Last week my mentor Joey invited me to sit in on a live video shoot and audio recording for a band.  I got there around 8:30 at night and the studio was alive with energy.  People were running around getting things ready, setting up a equipment and such.  The band and crew were joking around, eating pizza.  It was a great atmosphere.  I was then told to sit down, relax, and enjoy myself, and I certainly did.  My mentor Joey and I were sitting behind a table of five monitors as the band played on a stage in front of us.  Throughout there performance Joey was directing the camera operators, telling them when to zoom, what instrument to focus on, etc.  This was great for me as I am also very interested in the video as well as audio.  Being able to sit back, watch, and take in the whole experience was great.  I learned how much work is involved in one of these productions, but also how fun and rewarding it can be.  I got to see how the audio for the shoot was recorded and then mixed through the console in the other room.  The band was great as well playing virtually every cover you could think of.  This was one of the highlights of my time with Recording Connection and it has further fueled my passion to do this professionally.  I am excited to see more sessions in the future, and hopefully have the oppurtunity to help out.
