RRF - Chapter 3 Blog Posted on 2015-03-29 by Anne Jacobs

Chapter 3 is all about digital audio. It is recorded by copying the informationa and transmitting it through binary code 1s and 0s.

There is also clipping involved. Clipping is when the amplitude of electrical incoming signal exceeds the max amp. that can be expressed numerically.

The recording session I had following this lesson was one of my favorites. We got to work with a young R&B (rap artist) We were able to work with him by picking out beats he was interested in and than he would start to freestyle on the spot. I was able to see how the audio engineer mixed the beats, and vocal patterns within the line of his beats to really soup up the music. I got to see him cut music as well as add in special effects that the artist wanted within his song.

The set up was trly simple, one mic in cardio. Than when the artist wanted several other people talking the engineer added another mic in the room that was omni to pic up a larger range of people chatting.

It made the sound way more dynamic and interesting.
