If you are starting out with mixing like I am, you want to keep a record of everything you record. There a several good reasons for this. It allows you to chart your progress as a mixing artist. You will be able to see how far you have come. Though you may want to burn those old yucky mixes, don't! We all need to remember where we came from to remain humble. Another good reason is your clientele may want to come back to a certain project someday and fix it. You will be able to pull up their mix or session and get to work on it. Thirdly, you will want to have those really good mixes so you can advertise yourself to other artists. An artist will be more likely to work with you if you can produce proof from prior mixes that you actually know what you are doing. Lastly, label everything!!!! Little things like the name of the project, name of the artist, and the date it was done are important. A blank CD can easily get lost in the shuffle and find its way to a trash can.
