I venture to say the best teacher in your field of audio engineering may be you!  With so much available information on the craft of audio engineering, it only takes a person with some motovation to teach themselves something in the field.  Yes, there will be friendly and knowledgeable people along to the way to guide and mentor, but hard deterimination will be the thing that gets you to where you dream of being.  I encourage you to do as I have done.  Read a book.  Pick up a mixing magazine.  Contact a local studio and ask if you can intern, even if it is strictly observational.  It is a great way to get your feet wet and grow in your craft.  And finally remember, never stop learning.  Audio engineering as a forever changing feild and you will never totally arrive!  You must keep up i with all the new gear that comes out and the new styles of music and how clientes want to be mixed.
