Every man, woman, and child at some point in their life has had a dream of the ideal thing they would like to do or become. Most artists I've met are HUGE dreamers and what an awesome thing that is. I also had (and still have) some big visions myself! So, how does this translate well into recording you ask. A lot of the clientele we audio engineers receive come in with big ideas about what they would like to do. Seasoned clientele will understand the process, but unseasoned clientele with big ideas will need our guidance with their visions. Dreams are wonderful, but they must translate into reality and often times need to be revised to work. One thing to help your client think through is their budget which can have a huge impact on what you will be able to do for your them. Time is money and art can take up a lot of time! A small budget may not equal the huge 12 song CD your artist was thinking about. There are many other factors as well like the skill of the artist, the marketability of their product, and even the skill of you the engineer! Any more you can think of? Mesage me!
