This chapter covered microphone placement and when it comes to recording, that's very important. If you don't have a good recording, no amount of EQ or compression will make it sound good. To get the right placement, you have to experiment. Being new to this, that'll be hard since I don't have too much time to play with diferent microphones and the placement of different instruments. Hopefully in a upcoming session, I'll get the chance to play around a bit and see which microphones sound better with each instruments. I'm sure I'll get my chance with time and the more I work on my craft. My last session with Prince was great. I got to see this band (no name yet) put down some vocals and play some bass and accoustic guitar. I wish I could of made their first session so I could see how he mics a drum set. Next time though. Just sitting back and watching Prince is a great help so I can see how a professional does things and I'll eventually take what I see from him and add my own touch to it and make it my own. I'm looking forward to setting up a studio so I can physically set up the mic to the instrument, hook it up to the patch and preamp and do the line check and everything. Don't want to get too ahead of myself but I don't mind getting thrown in the fire and see if I can come out somewhat unscathed. Until next time.
