Lesson #19

In our second to last session (which I am very sad about :( ) Brian had us work on a drum kit and recording live drums. This is something i'v never done before, so it feels good to have another thing kind of under my belt. First, we took the drum heads off and switched them. Next, showed me how to tune the toms, snare head, and kick drum. It was an older set so it was tough to get all the drums to the same pitch but we did it. Next we set them all up to record. We took the kick drum mic and set it half way inside the drum. And with 2 condencer mics we set one up opposite to the snare on the right side so it lined up parallel to the snare, and set up another over head mic to catch everything else. When setting up our tracks in protools, we put a gate on the over head to the snare so its main focus was the catch the snare and hats. After everything was set, I recorded Brians drum loop. Once he was done we EQed. It was fun to do something i'v never done before and the quality sounded great!
