After a lot of thought, you realized that there has to be a lot of microphone placements you could choose from to get the sound you want. But at first glance, you don’t really realize how many different kinds of placements there are. When I first started recording I had no idea what close miking or distant miking was. I certainly did not know what an X-Y technique or an A-B technique is. But I did learn something in this lesson that seems so simple, yet so crucial to getting everything done right. It’s naming your tracks. I know, so simple. But even in my past when I have mixed songs this has become such a problem. The practice run down is a particularly interesting concept as well. It's kind of the check yourself before your start on the final. It makes sense though. When you have paying customers and your work is your word, you have got to check yourself over and over and over. The practice rundown is just one of those checks.
