Week 20 Posted on 2013-08-10 by Isaiah Putman

This week I spent mixing the two Freebies tracks. Monday I worked on the longer one which was about 6 minutes. They wanted the mixes to sound pretty raw, but Mr. Sinko pressured me to make them sound as good as I can, especially considering they got their own copies of the recorded tracks, so they could do their own mixes for an EP they’re working on. I did make them sound as good as I thought was appropriate, and I was particularly pleased with the way the drums turned out, because they are a lot harder to do. I put a delay on the vocals and later after I printed the mix I wished I had done a little less with it, made it simpler. Also wished I had made to vocals pop out a little more with a compressor, but didn’t have time to do a second mix.

Thursday I took my final exam, and afterwards Mr. Sinko and I went over the answers and he gave me some final thoughts. I finished the mix of the shorter Freebies song which turned out a lot better than the other one. I still don’t have any real issues with it. Great way to end the program. Also got my own copy of my entire folder from the Salmon Peak sessions, which was about 30GB. I put it onto a SeaGate Backup Plus drive (3TB) which I had bought the day before. Might go back to do some re-mixes eventually.

Mr. Sinko and I said our goodbyes but he also invited me to come help him out on recording sessions they do in the future at Salmon Peak, which I look forward to.
