Catching up, Part 2 Posted on 2015-02-16 by Vincenzo Larich

Fast forward a bit more, and with even more real world studio time, I quickly learned about time-based effects such as delay and reverb. These forms of editing / mixing through plugins can give the track more characterstics that the producer or artist may be looking for. That can include making it sound live, warmer, not so flat or lifeless, etc.

I then dove into musical instrument digital interface, or MIDI. This is basically the way we are able to work with computers and other digital intruments through a binary code or language to create music. With MIDI, I can create music, alter tracks, apply coding from one intrument or track to another, many many possibilties come into play and all can be extremely beneficial. Ultimately, I would want to get a true artist in to record and make music, but in the case that I couldnt, using MIDI and digital intruments through keyboards or Pro Tools plugins would be another solution.

Well that's it for now as far as learning goes. I'll post up soon about Acoustics, Monitoring, and Mastering after my next session. In the next few blog posts, I will be discussing a few of the recording sessions I had the privilege of sitting in on, who the artist was, what they performed, and what I learned.
