This time at studio A in SF I got a chance to try out some of the EQ gear they have. Also got some in depth explaination and insight into the whole EQing process. It is interesting to note that the type of EQ that is used directly influences the style or genre of music that is being portrayed. I didn't really realize this as much before but it makes sense that certain frequencies on different instruments can be emphasized to really contribute to determine the type of emotion that comes out. For example, using a boost in the 3k range on a vocal will give it a more smooth softer sounding touch as opposed to a boost around 1k or 2k which will make it a little more punctual and edgy. It was good to practice some of the techniques my mentor was teaching on all the high grade analog gear. I'm really noticing how much the type of equipment used effects the type of sound that is created. It seems a lot easier to make an awsome sounding track when you have access to a plethora of awesome sounding gear and sort of impossible to get the same results if you have a limited supply of cheap plugins. -Brett Robinson
