This week I got to test out some of the analog compressors at Hyde st. studios. It was good to hear the differences between different kinds of compressors. There is definitely changes of coloration going from VCA to Opto to FET as well as changes in how they respond. I also got an explaination and demonstration of using a gating and expanding plugin. I didn't realize the main difference between the two before. I knew that gating was sort of an extreme form of expansion but didn't know that expansion is different in that the amount of gain attenuation varys with the amount of input above the threshold. -Brett Robinson
