I had heard about mastering before but I was not particularly clear on what the whole process entailed. Although this chapter barely scraped the surface on what mastering is, I was able to gain some valuable tips about amplitude and how to make signals louder. I learned that loudness comes from compressing and limiting at various gainstages. I found this to be extremely revealing to me because it made me think about my dynamics processing differently. Instead of just squashing something to oblivion recklessly, I have started to use more finesse with my compression settings as well as chaining my compressors one after another. Zach showed me how to compress and limit my master bus so that I could have a mastering refrence as I mix. Personally for me, I like to mix loud because I want to know what the listener will hear when they crank the volume up. This technique has helped me come up with a better way to mix.
