Time in- 4:55

Time out- 7:30

Today, as the main focus of the lesson, I went through the process of how to properly and efficiently mic a guitar speaker and a bass cab. As he usually does, Mark stood back and let me mic everything how I believed it should be miked. After I was done, he would show me exactly what I had done wrong and why. He showed me that a guitar’s sound wave frequency fully matures at about 1’- 1’1/4” away from the sound source. A sound wave projected from a bass cab fully matures at about 6 feet away though. Then, he broke out something called a Leslie type 122 speaker and had me try to mic that up. Apparently they are a type of speaker that requires whale oil to run properly. After that part of the lesson, Mark was going over the “wow” mics he has in the studio. He showed me 1958-1959 Neumann stereo mics, a Telefunken U47, a CMV3A, and a U87. Seeing all of his high end mics made me aspire to start saving up for a microphone collection of my own.
