The session and mixdown Posted on 2015-12-26 by Michael Wiener

This week was a short lesson with my mentor because of the holidays. We met up to discuss the different strategies to implement when choosing a micorphone and which instrument is being recorded. I thoroughly enjoyed this lesson because of the technical and acoustical skills necessary, it gave me some confidence to see that my intuition about general mic placement lined up directly with what the experts say! Before leaving, I heard a rough mix of White Oleander by Mr. Moonshine and my lord did it sound awesome.. the thing was itwas merely a rough mix. I asked Brian, "how could this get any better?" and his confident response amped me up for what lessons are to come. I've been working on two tracks of my own and I feel they are in the rough mix stage as well, but hearing White Oleander gave me some hope for improving even further.

When writing, experienced authors or literary scholars will state that there is never a completely finished version of a piece, and the same is absolutely true for music. Any creative work can use slight improvements due to the interpretive nature of art.
