Busy Few Weeks Posted on 2016-02-11 by Michael Wiener

It has been an incredibly busy past two weeks, and with that it has been incredibly stresssssssful! In our lessons we have been flying through the material about mix theory to get our hands on the boards and the mixes in our minds. The first track I started mixing was the Classical arrangement which was tricky in its own way but really helpful in conceptualizing and balancing Pan spacing within the mix. Next up I was feeling ambitious and downloaded the Electronica mix... woah. I went from 8 mono tracks to about 25 stereo tracks and loved every minute of it. After balancing the levels it seems my ears are best suited for electro-acoustic music which is exactly where the Electronica song fits in. Balancing the drums with synths flying around and electric guitars playing off each other with Vocals involved as well?? Challenge gladly accepted. Next up I will download the Metal song and the Hip Hop track and see how far I can take those.

In lesson over the past few weeks I have sat in and assisted the engineering for a band called Tall Walls, and a band called Dont Trip. Bot had some excellent music to share and I had some excellent experience to gain. A tip for those whose stress starts to catch up to them: add a tablespoon of vinegar to each meal and digest your food easily, it'll help prevent muscle soreness during those long and sweaty sessions where you don't know them hip artists and they don't know that you may not know what you are doing yet. But hey, never let it show.

Also coming up over the next week, I'll be completing the sound with the help of my director on the comedy short Stand, once we finish it we will submit it to the LA Comedy Fest where the entire team will experience great stress once again due to the potential and certain success of this project.

Until next time,

Michael Wiener
