In this lesson I learned about mastering. In the early 90s to the early 2000's music went though whats called the Loudness Wars. Record lables and bands would compeet with other record lables and bands, to see who can come out with the loudest album. The engineers would master each song by using compression and limiting to the point where the songs sounded distorded and staticky.
