Devin LongTennessee Recording Connection

Tabletops and gear Posted on 2015-11-21 by Devin Long

The first couple weeks of meeting with my mentor has been going well. Ric is super knowlegeable, sucessful and experienced. We talk alot about music business and the way the universe works with sound. Hes shown me about bass traps, speakers, sound waves. He also this past time, gave me a pretty good education on how basic samplers, and sequencers worked with keyboards and how the they work with and in the modern keyboard now. I'm pretty much clueless on how that stuff works and im super excited about getting into it and seeing more. The idea of replacing a snare drum with a sample of a broken bottle or any sample you can dream up is exciting to me.   Anyway to the good stuff.

I work from home on mondays and fridays, for my corporate healthcare job, and i hate siting down, so i wanted to build a stand up desk that held both a workstation for my corporate job and my music production. I was stressing out about it, because no option seemed right. The options were either really expensive like 1000 dollars. Or too large, not the right shape etc. I needed it to fit in my rather small bedroom and still have enough space for both workstations. I was really stressing out then it hit me like a ton of cinder blocks under a basic folding table. I got 4 cinder blocks from home depot and bought a portable folding table off of amazon. Total cost 70 dollars. Its the perfect hight, space, and shape. Its super sturdy as well.

The mac i bought off of craigslist for 1,050. Its a 27inch I5 quad core 2014 model with 8 gigs of ram and 1T hardrive. Super good deal. Like new condition also. Used by a medical research student who bought it with vanderbilt money. I fully recommend going the extra mile for the 27 inch. Its awesome. I think the standing workspace is going to be super intutive for creating beats.
