Why is Mixing an audio is just like Cooking food Posted on 2017-02-20 by Hannah Angcos

In my session with my mentor, he told me that how a chief does with his cooking is likely the same as a sound engineer mixing an audio. In cooking, the quality of your ingredients has an effect on your food presentation. How you plan your presentation will surely give you a great impact on your performance later on. The more time you experiment the more you will come up with new recipes. Let me expound those a bit.

The quality of your ingredients will affect your food presentation. In audio engineering, that means that the tools that you will use will surely affect your final product. For example, if you want a professional sound recording but you have a bad quality microphones and bad room acoustics. Don't expect to have a good quality sound in your recording. Same as don't expect that you can cook chicken curry if you don't have curry powder.

How you plan your presentation will impact your performance later on. In audio engineering, if you are given a task, plan the tools that you will be needing that will make a great sound. Like in cooking, if you want to have a great presentation, plan the essential ingredients that you will need.

The more you experiment the more you will come up with new recipes. Just like cooking, you can come up different good mixing sounds and combinations if you will take time to explore and to experiment with different sounds and techniques in mixing an audio.

Learning audio engineering is not far different from learning how to cook. In fact, the same principles applies in improving and perfecting your performances on both career professions.
