Today was the first time in a few weeks I was able to spend some time in the studio with chris after our lesson. We went through lesson 5, Signal Flow and Patch Bays. Once again, I can read, highlight and take all the notes I want but until I see something with my eyes and have it explained to me by someone with experience, I am unable to really take anything in. We discussed at length the importance of signal flow. Every signal must have an input and an output. Another advantage to working with chris is that often his business partner nick is around and sits in with us and offers another angle for my consideration. Chris works off a tascam M-3700 consol, 24 channel open patch bay configuration. As much as I love electronic music and how it's produced, the atmosphere it can create. I'm an older guy who's love of music started with Niel Young and The Doors via the old mans record collection. I know that statement is rich coming form a 33 year old but that's where the love affair started. So the potential of learning on a non-digital sound board excited me. Also in my studio time today I was able to help mic a drum kit. Very enjoyable. I was even able to help sound check. Unfortunatley I had to leave for work just prior to the recording, which would have been the perfect cap to the lesson.
