Progress/points of interest: Juggling it all Posted on 2013-06-17 by Nikki Sage

This week has been an extremely hard one. Juggling work and school is beginning to take a toll on me, but it will not hold me back. I really enjoyed reading assignment two’s content; probably because there were fewer equations thrown at me, and realized I have a deep interest in how to build a studio. I have always wanted to build my own studio so I can record my own music, and the information presented to me now in this course is a perfect outline to do so. I have no physics or construction background, so I really learned a lot in terms of design and materials, and what is important to keep in mind when designing a room. I realize now that I never really thought of how much time, energy, and precision was needed to develop and design a balanced acoustic room suitable to record music. I think a lot of people do not realize how much work an engineer has to do to make music sound so good! The musical producer is definitely unappreciated, and needs to know a lot of detail in order to make beautiful sound. People always say a doctor or a lawyer is a hard profession to get into, but I have to say, a recording engineer should be added to the list. Not only must we have an ear for music and sound, but we also must be quick thinkers and have a good understanding of math, physics and science. Ironically all three of those subjects I almost failed in school! It’s going to be a rough road ahead I’m sure, but the one thing I can guarantee I have is passion. I have to say (or in others words I’m hoping) that’s all ill need to get through until all the other content clicks and falls into place in my brain. I keep asking myself am I smart enough for this? But then I follow up with another question: How bad do I want this? …… and I keep on reading and driving to that studio….
