I knew this week would be a very important section because it was all about microphones. Microphones are a key ingredient to good recording and knowing which microphone gets the best out of each particular instrument. Jeff and I went to the microphone closet and pulled a few different microphones. We then plugged in a dynamic Shure SM57 microphone directly into the patch bay and recorded me singing Mary Had a Little Lamb. Then we unplugged that microphone and plugged in the Neumann U87 condenser microphone. Then we recorded me singing Mary Had a Little Lamb again. I couldn't believe the dramatic difference! The quality of the Neumann was substancial as well as the frequency response difference. Overall, it was another great session with Jeff.
