It has been too long. The past couple months have been rough to find times where I could sit-in at the studio. When I came into this program my battle plan was to be present at the studio from noon to 5 most days of the week after which I would head out to work for the night (as many students must). This became impractical since oftentimes there is nothing going on at the studio when artists are not in recording sessions. It was not too much of a problem since I could get in as the end of summer was a busy time. That said as winter set in, however, things started to slow down a bit. It became more difficult to find sessions to observe and work in. I was given permission to ask around my friends for anyone that wanted free recording studio time so that I could get engineering practice, but that was exhausted more quickly than I would have liked. Good sessions, but only so many people I know want to record. Ultimately I have picked up a good number of tips, tricks, and techniques that have improved me as an artist and an engineer. For this I am thankful. It is a pleasure to watch skills learn and grow. This leaves me with a problem however. I have no portfolio to show for it. I learned a lot through observing and testing on my own, running a few sessions but I got a chance to, and working with the artists I knew personally, but none of that is mine to put on a portfolio. It leaves me in a traveling position where I found a 2 year sound design apprenticeship that asks for someone fluent in Pro Tools and recording workflow, but also asked for examples of work done. I believe it to be perfect in this regard, but I have no portfolio to show for it. So now I must find some way to build some portfolio work on my own, and quickly before the position gets filled. It's troubling, but it's something to work for in the immediate. If anyone who happens to read this need some design work done or know someone who does I could use the work. The Game Is On.
