Visited my mentor today.....and the studio was crowded with producers, groups and interns. Intern Jaime was there and we talked about the Master's program which he is doing. He said its less book work and more hands on stuff which is cool. Donnie said the program is relatively new and it could be shaped however so, since I want to get in sound production Donnie was saying that they could bring in a movie or a short film and I can ad sound design to the video. Jaime said it will probably be around $5000-6000 additional. I'll look into, but not sure if I can go right after this class because I need to pay some bills.
Looking to possible fly back in March for 2wks and do some gigs and hopefully work with some of my contacts. If everything goes well maybe I can make this a reoccurring thing. Also one of the managers at AMAZON has a friend who is in the event production business and he is always on the go. He was at the Grammys, before that he was at the Mayweather fight and now is is in China. I'm looking forward to meeting this guy and Sean said he would introduce us when I finish this program.
Going back to Donnie, we talked about CH 18 which was about Acoustics & Monitors. We went into one of his recording rooms and he showed me the why he padded it and why he did it the way he did. Diffusers were on the walls and even on the top. He had wood panels on the back wall and fabric on some of the walls. He said the room has to look ascetically pleasing and have a good vibe. The space was not as dead as the studio at EFX where we used the lead on the walls but it was good. I told Donnie about the studio and how we constructed it and he gave me an assignment - to design a sound proof room with a budget of 250,000. He told me when it comes to these rooms make it a simple setup, computer, monitors and speakers along with your paneling. Cover your walls with some material that can absorb sounds and of course make it look nice to give it a vibe.
This should be an interesting assignment.....he also gave me a book to look at. Next CH 19 is about mastering the mix and this will be my last one for the course...looking forward to be done.
