Assisting in recording a Reggae band! Posted on 2016-06-02 by Kristin Staub

I'm back!  As of late, I have been working on a couple projects making my own music to mix and edit.  In addition to that, however, I am helping one of my classmates, Darnell, to record his reggae band.  We have already had three sessions so far.  We laid all the tracks for two songs on the first day and now we're going back to polish up some things with re-recording of certain parts.  I mainly assist in the studio and help with organization of the songs and keep the sessions running efficiently.  I love this part because I get to do what I've been watching Edwin do for the last year.  Pretty soon I will get some of my own artists in the studio to record some things and get some experience running my own session.  Having worked on some of my own projects, I can navigate Pro Tools much better and know exactly what needs to be done during a session to make the recording time more efficient.  This has been such an exciting process so far and I definitely feel like I am in my element.  This is where I feel comfortable and enjoy doing what I'm doing now.

On top of that, the reggae band wants to do an entire album!  So now, I get to be the co-pilot to Darnell's project, help him with some details and listen for certain things to make the recordings sound better.  Darnell and I work well as a team and we communicate efficiently on what needs to be done, which is sometimes not always the case when doing sessions.  I'm sure he and I will be working on more projects in the future.  Right now, it's back to the lab!
