Walking into one of the best recording studios in the area for your first time was a pretty intimidating thing. Although I felt confident in my skills and experience its a wake up when you walk into a studio like this knowing your going to learn to master your skills in this very place. The studio is made up of a large live room that sounds great no matter where you are in it thanks to almost no paralell walls and angled semi-reflective construction, along with the ceiling being a giant diffuser and absorber. All this makes up for just the right amount of pure natural reverb and sounds great everywhere. On top of that there are two isolation rooms, one connected to the live room and the other in the basement (commercial building) used for amp isolation. My instructor Lenny Milne has been a recording engineer and producer for longer than I have been alive and over this time period has gained a endless amount of skills, expertise and knoledge. During my first session we worked on guitar tracks for "The Perpetrators" and went over previous songs that are going to be on the album to pick takes of the bedtracking. Throughout the lesson Jay, the lead singer and guitar player, and I got to talking a bit. We found out that his girlfriend lives in the same building as me and he is there all the time. I ended up helping him haul some gear home which was great because I got to learn a little history about the band. All in all it made for a great first lesson and knew that this is going to be a fantastic 6 months. I have a great room and a great intructor, now its up to me to join them at that level.
