Day 1, March 21st Posted on 2014-03-25 by Andrew Flores

Despite being a little nervous, I was excited to see the studio and Donny Baker again. We met about two weeks ago when I was shown ES Audio's rooms and equipment. I was familiar with most of my surroundings today, which help me feel comfortable. After briefly signing and reading paperwork, Donny and I went to the control room to talk about the mix he was working on. He jokingly called the band "Aerosmith 2.0" because most members of the band were the sons of Aerosmith's band members. I was able to follow along as Donny adjusted levels, compressed tracks, and edited regions in Pro Tools. A little bit later, Erik, another student, came in and we went into the live room to test out different microphones for his lesson. Donny recording guitar licks that I did and we went back into the control room. One of the microphones was a shell mic because it was a microphone built into a shotgun shell. We heard three different mics. Two of which sounded very alike and the third was noticably different. Jesse, student of the master's program, came in and was preparing to work on his song. I sit in for a while and we converse a little as he records bass, guitar, and midi. Unfortunately I was getting really hungry so I left soon afterward. The first day was really busy and I got to see much of what happens on a typical day at ES Audio. The staff was very friendly and treated everyone like family. I got along with everyone very well on my first day.
